Retire-At-Home receives Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics

Ottawa, Ontario – October 5, 2006 - The Better Business Bureau (BBB) awarded Retire-At-Home Services with the 2006 Torch Awards under the large business category for demonstrating strong ethical business practices. The awards gala dinner took place on October 4th, 2006 at Ottawa’s National Art Centre and was attended by distinguished professionals within the community.

“Retire-At-Home has won several awards over the past couple of years, but this one really stands out for us”, said Jonathan Martin, Executive Director of Retire-At-Home, “It recognizes our care team as a whole and demonstrates the commitment that each person has in ensuring that our clients and employees are always treated fairly and given the respect and dignity they deserve”.

Retire-At-Home Services provides home and health care services to seniors who are dealing with a health related crisis. The company was founded in 1994 and has grown to more than 150 employees and services hundreds of seniors in Ottawa every year. Irene Martin and her son, Jonathan Martin, have been recognized this year with individual awards for leadership, community involvement, and business skills – the BAA Businesswoman of the Year and Ottawa’s Top Forty Under 40, respectively.

“Irene, my mother, started Retire-At-Home 13 years ago with the belief that seniors deserve the best care possible.” continued Mr. Martin. “She built the company one client at a time and we can proudly say that even with all the growth we’ve experienced, we still treat each client as personably as we did before.”

The coveted BBB International Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics attracts over a thousand entries from businesses of all sizes throughout North America. Local competitions are held to highlight the importance of corporate conscience and responsibility in upholding a fair and honest marketplace. Other Torch Awards recipients included Hulse Playfair and McGarry, Beechwood Cemetery, and General Repairs and Renovations.
